Canada's labour market remained broadly constructive in August, although employment declined by 41,700 from July. Employment remained 216,500 above August 2025, while the unemployment rate held at 6.4%. Beneath those national results, recruitment pressure remains concentrated in particular occupations and locations.
Saskatchewan added 2,600 jobs during August, but the underlying picture is more complex. Unemployment was higher than a year earlier, participation declined, and annual employment growth came through part-time rather than full-time work. Conditions also varied sharply across sectors and occupations.
